"No, I will never homeschool." Twelve years ago, I remember adamantly responding with those exact words to a friend who had chosen the road of homeschool. Not long after those unyielding words left my mouth, I lived out that famous expression, "Never say never."
Just two short years later, the Lord led our sweet family on a rewarding journey of overwhelming unknowns, uncertain fears, inexplicable joy, sweet memories, long days, early mornings, long talks, and precious answers to the quiet unspoken prayers of our family.
On a weekly basis, I am asked why we chose to homeschool. Choosing to homeschool is a deeply personal and monumental life changing decision. Our decision to homeschool was not made because we believed we could teach our children better than the local private or public school. It was not made because we were concerned for their safety. It was not even made because we were concerned about exposure to the world. We chose to homeschool because God clearly showed us homeschooling was His will for our family. We chose to homeschool in obedience to what He called us to do as a family.
Today marks our tenth completed year of homeschooling. When we made the official decision to begin this journey, we had complete peace while understanding the road ahead was filled with unanswered questions. Through it all, we as a family have learned to hourly, daily, and weekly trust God to show us the way. He has done just that numerous times in more ways than we can even begin to imagine. As a family, we believe that He will continue to go ahead of us and prepare the road He has planned for us as we continue this journey. We are truly grateful to be asked by Him to travel this journey.
"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
James 1:2-4
