Our heart…the desire of our heart is to raise our children to trust Jesus, to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to reflect Jesus to others. Through discussion with numerous families who share kindred hearts, the majority have similar desires but different avenues which they travel to attain their individual desires. Years ago, we determined that homeschooling our children would provide us with multiple avenues needed to raise our children with hearts that stand upon strong convictions based on the Word of God. It was a decision that doubtless had the fingerprints and plans from God all over it.
While a select group of society tolerates the idea of homeschooling during the elementary years, when the high school years begin various family members, friends, acquaintances, and perfect strangers will doubt your judgment regarding the education of your children. Without a doubt, a strong homeschooler will pause and consider their decision as their children develop and life changes. That is a good thing. A good homeschooler will recognize that it is essential to reflect upon each school year and the future it may hold for the family and each child, individually. A fear of the unknown along with unsolicited commentary from others will lead a homeschooler to doubt their ability and qualifications to homeschool through high school.
May you be encouraged to consider the direction your are heading but do not doubt what God can do through you, what God will provide for you, and what God will teach you. God has carried you through homeschooling the elementary years; He will not abandon you through the middle and high school years. We may view ourselves as unqualified to homeschool our teenage children. God uses unqualified people all throughout the Bible. Look at David. Was David, as a small shepherd boy, qualified to face Goliath the giant? Goliath was a well-trained soldier while David was just a young shepherd boy. Why was God able to use David who seemed to be unqualified when facing Goliath?
God used David simply because David trusted God. God was with him.
It is not about whom we are and what we are able to accomplish. It is about Who God is. Matthew 19:26 says, “But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” When making God the priority in your homeschool, makes it possible because with Him all things are possible. This reminds me of an old hymn that we routinely sang in our Baptist church as a child.
Nothing is Impossible
Eugene L. Clark
Nothing is impossible when you put your trust in God;
Nothing is impossible when you're trusting in His Word.
Hearken to the voice of God to thee;
"Is there anything too hard to Me?“
Then put your trust in God alone and rest upon His Word;
For ev'rything, O, ev'rything, yes ev'rything is possible with God.
Once we trust God to do the impossible, we will still face challenges. We will still face opposition, we will still have doubts, and it will be hard to homeschool through high school. When those things happen, remember these three things:
God is with you.
It is not about what we can do, but it is about who God is.
Nothing is impossible with God.
Fellow homeschooler, do not allow high school to compel you to wobble in your faith. Your desire to raise your children to trust Jesus, to know Jesus, to love Jesus and to reflect Jesus to others can be attained through your homeschool. While this blog focuses on homeschool, your desire to raise your children can also be attained through public and private school. If you still ask but how, here is the answer once again.
God is with you.
It is not about what we can do, but it is about who God is.
Nothing is impossible with God.
