Each morning, I begin the day completing this sentence. “God’s goodness to me is ________________.” Today, I wrote…..
“God’s goodness to me is that I am a LEO wife”
Law Enforcement Officers, affectionately known to their families as a LEO, have sacrificed the ultimate sacrifice in the last week. Today is Friday, February 12, 2016. Since Friday, February 5, 2016, the watch of seven law enforcement officers came to abrupt end at the hands of criminals.
John 15:13
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
On Friday, February 5, 2016, Jason Goodding laid down his life for his friends.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Patrick Dailey laid down his life for his friends.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Derek Geer laid down his life for his friends.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Mark Logsdon laid down his life for his friends.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, Scott Ballantyne laid down his life for his friends.
On Thursday, February 11, 2016, Greg Barney laid down his life for his friends.
On Thursday, February 11, 2016, Jason Moszer laid down his life for his friends.
7 days, 7 lives…..gone.
Discussing the politics, the hatred towards LEO’s, and the consistent bias of the media against law enforcement is useless to discuss. People hear what they want to hear and believe what they want to believe, ignoring the truth in an effort to pursue their very own warped agendas. It is pure selfishness and dishonesty being displayed by politicians, media, and social activists.
While it may feel like a useless and hopeless situation, we do have hope. Feeble words from our human, sinful hearts will not bring comfort to the Law Enforcement community, but God’s word can bring comfort, hope, and a future.
Psalm 39:7 (KJV)
And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Psalm 56:8 (NLT)
You keep track of all my sorrows
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book.
Impossible to understand our upside down world, we can once again turn to scripture for answers, comfort, and trust. We live in a world where right is wrong and wrong is right, but the Bible has answers for that as well.
Isaiah 5:20
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
What about these seven men? Seven good men who had families, who tirelessly worked to protect the community, and who would be the first ones to risk their own lives to save you from a dangerous situation died this week. Their watch ended this week. They gave the ultimate sacrifice. What about them?
Isaiah 57:1
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
Just this morning as I read about Joseph revealing himself to his brothers, I read this verse that caused me to consider the lives of these 7 men.
Genesis 48:6
Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither; for God did send me before you to preserve life.
While we may not know where these men are spending their eternity, we can place our hope in Jesus Christ, alone.
Titus 2:13 – 14
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Today, God’s goodness to me is that I am the wife of a LEO. I am proud of that. I am proud of our law enforcement community and the sacrifices they make daily to provide me safety. I am also sad and mourning for those families who have lost their loved ones. Thankfully, God is so good to us and our hope is not in this human, sinful world. My hope is in Jesus Christ and that is His goodness to me.
