Do you want to be known as a mom who is 'good enough'?
If my goal as a mother is to be 'good enough', then my goal is mediocrity. Therefore a mediocre mom will raise mediocre children. Mediocre is defined as "barely adequate". Can 'barely adequate' children raised by ' barely adequate' mothers lead our country to greatness again?
As a mother, can I set my goal as one of perfection? Absolutely not, because I sin everyday and there is no way I could ever meet that imagined standard of perfection. However, I can set my goal as one who approaches motherhood with an attitude of excellence.
I teach my children not to strive for perfection, but rather to do everything in an excellent manner. As a mom, I should strive to mother in an excellent manner.
Does that mean I will have a spotless home for my husband to come home to everyday? No, especially not with four children living in our house.
Does that mean my children will be perfectly well behaved straight A students? Not hardly.
Does that mean I will serve three delicious hot meals to my family everyday? No. In fact, as I am writing this, my husband informed me that yesterday his lunch with just a ham, yellow mustard and no cheese on his sandwich was a little wimpy. He will be happy today because there is a peanut butter, banana, Nutella sandwich, an apple, and Oreo cookies in his lunch box.
See, I am not perfect, but I can choose to have an attitude of excellence.
What does an attitude of excellence mean? It means that I will love my husband, raise my children, and take care of my home with an attitude that is pleasing to God. I will strive to do this with a goal for my family written upon my heart. The goal which is written upon my heart will be my focus. I will keep my eyes on that focal point.
What is my focal point? My focal point is JESUS. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, "But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul."
When I am distracted from that focus, when I fail, when I am being just 'good enough'; God's word says in Micah 7:7-8 "Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me. Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me."
'Good enough' just is not good enough for me. I want be an 'Excellent mom'.
I Corinthians 10:31
"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
